American Dipper (Cinclus mexicanus)

Estes Park, Colorado

Also called a "Water Ouzel" or just Ouzel, these are very quick birds that feed on insects in rushing water. They are fascinating to watch but difficult to photograph. Note the extra-large feet which aid in gripping rocks on the stream bottom in fast water.
