Probably the oldest living great skua record in the Netherlands.This bird was photographed at IJmuiden Zuid-Pier in Holland 26-06-2006 and was almost 30 years of age.

This bird was originally BTO ringed as a chick on Foula in July 1976. It nested in Foula again in 2003, but was not seen in 2004,2005 or 2006, so appears to have abandoned the colony in 2004. It was then 28 years old, which is starting to get to the stage where bonxies show a reduction in survival with age. But 2004 was also a year with almost no sandeels or discards around Shetland and total breeding failure of most seabirds, including Foula bonxies, and a high proportion of our birds failed to stay that season.
