I had somewhat of a similar problem when a red-tail hawk flew past me in my backyard chasing a bird, but I never got a shot off. Nice op but too bad no tripod/monopod.

I would've guessed "Peregrine," but I'm notoriously bad at id'ing anything more exotic than ravens and scrub jays. It's a dead-on match for the illustration of a Kestrel in Laura's bird book.
