This years State competition was especially gratifying for the SMG Level 10 Boys when, prior to learning that they took first place team, Brett Hamby was awarded the inaugeral John and Wesley Nygren Memorial Scholarship.
From the scholarship criteria: The recipient is a graduating senior gymnast who has achieved level 8, 9, or 10 and has displayed leadership, commitment, and a desire to learn during his time as a competitive gymnast with the NCBGA. This is ... focused on the athlete that best exemplifies the traits outlined above.
Those of us who know Brett, commend the scholarship selection comittee on their choice. He exemplifies the characteristics for which the award is intended.
