"We have been here before." - M. Krauss
~
“Stand up to crises. Don't let them throw you! Fight to stay calm... even surmount the crisis completely and turn it into an opportunity.
Refuse to renounce your self-image. No matter what happens, you must keep your good opinion of yourself. No matter what happens,
you must hold your past successes in your imagination, ready for showing in the motion picture screen of your mind.
No matter what happens, no matter what you lose, no matter what failures you must endure, you must keep faith in yourself.
Then you can stand up to crises, with calm and courage, refusing to buckle; then you will not fall through the floor. You will be able to support yourself.” - Maxwell Maltz

"What we actually learn, from any given set of circumstances, determines whether we become increasingly powerless or more powerful." - Blaine Lee
~
"All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renenwed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.” - J.R.R. Tolkien

It was a sign of the times, even way back when. Manufacturing jobs are becoming more and more scarce. Everyone can't be in the service industry.

Mark, I think you represent the current situation very well. It does give a look of dispair and things falling apart imo. Good job!

That's where the elves hid the shards of the sword of Elendil until the appointed time?

It looks gloomy and depressing. Too easy to let things start to collapse.
Ronald Bijtenhoorn04-Feb-2010 18:13
That looks depressing! Like the way you composed the image with all the pallets in the foreground.
Ed Duverger04-Feb-2010 17:10
It's impressive but we should not give up hope.
John Ewing04-Feb-2010 16:33
Fairly exudes depression. Needs a good fire.

Very well portrayed. Nice balance of tones. Those bright gray skies can get away from you. This looks like it was quite the busy place at one time. Surprised the pallets haven't been taken, sold, recycled, somthing. Linda S

A most expressive image, Mark. Very sad.

Very good and emotional image Mark.

You can smell the rust and mold and loss, and taste it on your pallet. Bleak subject.
Steve Thuman04-Feb-2010 06:03
This speaks volumes! Not only for the current employment conditions, but the loss of manufacturing in this country over the last few decades

Great image and interesting idea to try and convey a very frightening subject. This building looks like it's been out for a lot longer than last year. We have a bunch of old factories around us that are not being used that I could photograph like this as well. I never thought of it until now but it does tell a story. Great image!

Sad commentary. Oregon's unemployment rate is even higher. This isn't a recent phenomena, but a consequence of years of mismanagement of resources, movement of labor overseas, and government waste. The jobs left for people here are mostly low pay.
