This was shot with the oft maligned and difficult to use Reflex Nikkor 500mm f8 lens.It was fun to experiment with and I used it with both FX and DX sensor fields.
I'm glad to have made this shot and the additions to my birds gallery that begin at http://www.pbase.com/mkrauss/image/109565298

I've always wondered about the reflex lenses. It sure did a great job here.

This is a great shot. Is the background water just out of focus, or was there a bit of panning on your part?

Wow,fine catch and this bird is quite an elegant glider. This kind of shape of the wings is used in gliders with their long span.

I like what it did to the water. Sharp image. Does this work like the reflector telescope I had as a kid?

Wow, it did a great job, Mark. One question, what are the guidelines for avoiding the donuts one sees from this kind of lens? I might check into prices for the Nikkor mirror lens
