This historic Danish built lighthouse is called Maria's Light (Marienleuchte in German) because it was inaugurated by the Danish Queen Maria Sophie Friederike on her birthday, October 28, 1832. The lighthouse was closed in 1964 because it was in poor structural condition and could not be heightened to meet the needs of shipping.
