This Ute-Finnish fellow told us tales of olden days living in the California desert as we enjoyed the view with him. He descibed horse-drawn wagons lumbering through the dry hills and valleys, carrying families, delivering supplies and mail. He described the landscape as one of flames and floods, and his words were born out a few weeks later in the terrible Julian fires of 2003.
