Age
Ben Tre, Vietnam, January 2008

Both Phil and I photographed this man. I am sure that Phil will link to his image. I suspect from the attitude of both the man and his family, that perhaps this man was falling into dementia. I can image, given his age, that he is wondering what are these American's doing here, out of uniform, with cameras

What a wonderfully poignant portrait that speaks to me of dignity and aging and of a man who has experienced many journeys in his lifetime. The vacant look in his eyes, however, indicates, to me, that he has embarked on a new journey, one from which there will be no return.

Thanks Phil and Carol for your comments - I feel that the wall is also an important element in this image. It seems to echo the aging of the man.

Wonderful portrait, Tim. You tell his story by concentrating on his face, a face that has seen a lot of history in its time. I told his story with an environmental portrait, where context is as important as his face:http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/91825897 I would give many pennies for his thoughts!

Yes, his face says it all. And what a wonderful face it is too! He has seen much more than we could ever imagine but may not be able to tell us about it any longer.
