You found a hidden world of meaning here, Tim -- the closeup texture of the moss becomes a topographical map here, while the shadow in the middle of the piling becomes a black lake that makes the entire piling seem almost paper thin. In my own version (http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/80828417 ) I create a community of pilings. We each tell an entirely different story -- yours, as you note in your comment on my image, is "lonely" while mine is "social." There is much to be gained from either approach. Do we move in, or stay back? It all depends upon what we are trying to say.
