It is amazing how different your image of this sculpture is from my own, Tim. I use light and shadow to intensify the fragmentation in this sculpture, and to stress what I saw as an evil eye (http://www.pbase.com/pnd1/image/80831641 ) You use the sculpture as soft focus context for a small cluster of bright flowers. The sculpture becomes almost humane in the process.
