For me, this bird symbolizes the opposite of what the camp was all about.

Interesting photograph, Tim. I've often marveled at the sense of freedom the mountains that rise above Manzanar have meant to so many visitors, from those who like to fish to mountaineers, and I've wondered if the prisoners wondered about the ironic location of their incarceration.

To use an oft repeated cliche.....WOW!! A bird in flight, for me, is indeed a metaphor for freedom. How symbolic that it be flying over an area where over 117,000 people were deprived of their freedom. How amazing that you saw this and recorded it so dramatically.

What a spectacular shot, Tim -- the raptor seems almost translucent against that vast clean sky, and the pointed tips of its wings echo the points on the mountain tops. An yes, it can certainly be viewed as a metaphor for freedom, flying over the site of a former dentention camp.
