Jamestowne


The site of the original fort at Jamestowne was thought to be lost to the James River. The archeologists on Jamestowne Island have discovered the site of the original fort and are continuing to unearth a rich collection of atrifacts. This image shows the reconstructed wall of the fort with a statue of John Smith in the background.

Most photographers would stress the statue and use the fence as context. You turn the tables here with a tiny, far away statue (yet clearly defined) and large, close-up of the fence. It is the texture and shape of history itself you express here, using the distant statue as historical context.
