You have a number of incongruous images here of monks at play in Tad Lo's waterfalls. This one is, in my view, the most resonant in terms of contrasting emotional response, as well as stressing the fact that these are indeed monks, and all they stand for. The monk at left is having a wonderful time, the monk at the rear is well abstracted by the water but you see his mouth is wide open in pleasure, and the monk at right, in contrast, is incongruously serene in stature. Together, these three monks express a variety of response, and you play them beautifully against each other, yet still structure the image within an elegant diagonal composition. If you were to choose a cover picture for a magazine article on Laos, or on Laotian monks, this one would be my choice because it tells so many stories. A truly remarkable picture, Tim.
