In my opinion, the way the arch turns to the left makes this picture easy to the eye, as the left monk is situated "lower" than the right one. The lighting, also, does much good for this image, I think.
Agree totally with Phil's comment, and I love the size relationship between the monks and the arch. The use of the color here is marvelous! The large arch draws my eye right underneath it to the small figures.
