Statue and Beehive - Vientiane

I find this image to be multilayered - I think of the image of the bees in a hive being cells of one body with the mind of the queen. Here the hive comes out of the head of the statue. I also think of the stereotype which I have long ago discarded but which was imbedded in my mind growing up in the 1950's in the US of the "communist state" as being full of powerless worker bees. I had no time, nor inclination to explore the political realities of modern Laos, but I did think about it as I took this image.

Stormy thought? I like the concept.

As I read your interpretation, I also thought that this image could be a metaphor for meditation.

An amazingly incongruous juxtaposition of an icon with a work of nature. It is almost as if we we are looking at a mini-tornado pouring from the icon, a remarkably fresh metaphor for the power of prayer.
