This photograph is just amazing! The intense mood of the composition is enhace by the contrast of the 'silver' moon light and the 'golden' light of the chapel and it all creates an unforgettable picture.. The balance between light and darkness, the subtl silhouettes, that terrific cloudy sky... made me think about the powers of nature and also the powers of the divine, represented by mankind. Excellent!
Or you could call this one "Shelter". I love the dramatic angry sky with the small door of safety with the golden colors, a church of course, summoning the passerbys to come in from the danger. The cross barely visible is subtle but such a strong element, in my opinion.
Photographs of the moon are rarely expressive unless they include a context to make them work. This picture does just that. It is really not about the moon at all -- it works largely because of that shock of golden color contrasting to a monochromatic setting . The tiny, silhouetted figures conversing before the entrance to this Santa Fe chapel offer an additional study in scale incongruity. The moon itself is not the subject of this picture -- instead, it offers a dramatic context as it illuminates the barren trees and thin clouds that lace the night sky.
