I have always been amazed at the tedious tilework of on these beautiful temples! I wonder how long it took to set all of that. The bird does seem to connect the two temples and yet it's the tiniest thing in the image!
It is as if these temples are trying to communicate with each other. The presence of the birds is no accident -- you often find avian intrusions make for incongruous relationships. And such is the case here.
