Stupa
Killing Fields Memorial, Outside Phnom Penh, Cambodia, January 2008

The Killing Fields Memorial is located where much of the mass killing occurred. There is a large stupa which which contains layer upon layer of skulls that have been recovered from the fields. I made this image with the blossom in it to evoke a sense of hope that life goes on.

The light on the blossoms enhances the feeling of hope and reminds us once again that we must not forget. How many lessons does it take?

Eloquent juxtaposition of horror and hope. The arms of the stupa reach towards the unfolding fresh blossoms above, the past in soft focus, the present and future sharp focus.
