I was asked to scan, restore, print and reframe this rectangular version of the oval image in the previous page where both 110 year old originals are in similar poor shape.
I thought it would be an interesting project to see what improvements would occur by using my current and 10 year newer set of image editing tools.
The overwhelming difference is in the use of an excellent Photoshop plug-in called Topaz Photo AI.
It sharpens, does noise reduction and enhances facial detail significantly better than anything I have used previously.
It should be obvious to anyone reading here (as of this posted date of 09.09.26) that Artificial Intelligence (the AI in Topaz Photo AI) is creating a profound paradigm shift in photo editing.
Difficult projects done in the past that took labor measured in man-days with a skilled artisan measured in man-years experience, can now be executed in minutes with rudimentary technical skill.
And in some instances it is going WAY beyond what virtually any human can accomplish.
As an example AI can analyze facial features and by using 'machine learning' from a huge database of similar images is able to extrapolate legitimate believable detail.
Thus I'm no longer surprised when things like eyelash and iris detail start to emerge from what appears to be nothing.
