original FE 70-300G FIELD TILT
This is a test shot wide open at a maximum FL of 300mm. These is the most interesting composited USAF-1951 target portions (all at 100%) taken with my original Sony FE70-300G at a distance of 34.5 feet.
#1 The center area that is outlined in blue is a ‘selection’ from dead center of that original test shot
#2 On the left hand side is a ‘selection’ from the original test shot from up in the top left hand corner.
#3 On the TOP right hand side is a ‘selection’ from the original test shot from up in the top right hand corner. (Note how much softer it is than the upper left)
#4 The BOTTOM right hand side is a ‘selection’ that is outlined in red and is very different. This didn’t come from the original test-shot but from another image where I manually focused on the upper right hand corner and NOT the center.
It is exactly the same portion of the test area as that above in #3. The camera never moved and the entire testing-area framing was left unchanged… except for where I focused.
I did this just to prove the lens COULD focus there and provide the same sharpness acuity as the upper left hand side. And the lens can; it just doesn’t. This likely indicates significant field tilt.
