If nothing else, nostalgia dictates that this is my personal all-time favorite shot.
In 1974, it was on the very first roll film that I ever processed on my own and to this day I love this image.
To me, it exhibits the fundamental human conditions of innocent expectation contrasted with quiet desperation and weathered resignation.

Note: 50 years after the original film capture, I reprocessed an old film scan. This is atypical in that it is uploaded at 3600 px high.
