I might have sharper lenses and those lenses might be without the 28-135’s weird idiosyncrasies but I love my 25YO Minolta 28-135 on my Sony a850.
Here’s a nightmare of a picture. Its backlit at 2 o’clock and everything is in deep shadow. The whole image was originally underexposed by an EV. It’s a very hazy day but detail still exists.
In the red circle on the far left side is a white square…and in the white square is a 40 pixel wide bicycle with a rider wearing outerwear with a hood. It's almost exactly 1 km away.
It’s absurd to view this hand held snapshot at 100%, much less 200%, but its illustrative just to see what is there.
As a frame of reference, if that 200% insert were printed at the size you are viewing it, the print would be approximately 150 inches across!
From a sharpness standpoint, 36 or even 42 inches would be reasonable as far as I am concerned (although I wouldn’t print this particular image at any size:)
At ISO 320, this lens is taxing the very high quality 24MP sensor's abiltiy to record detail and I'm sure that f11.0 is past the sweet spot of f8.0 on the lens.
