March 2011: ready to build the new Cynwyd Heritage Trail

Beginning March 1, 2011 the trail is closed for construction of the separated paved and soft surface trails of the Phase I construction.
Construction is expected to be completed in late September.

Phase I construction, building the main trail from Cynwyd Station to Belmont Avenue, will be completed in 2011. Work will include:
* Grading, stormwater and erosion control and necessary permitting.
* Establishing basic links with trailheads at Barmouth Station and Bala Cynwyd Park.
* Renovating the Bala Cynwyd Park Comfort Station and constructing a small parking lot.
* Providing emergency access and emergency notification elements.
* Installing safety fencing where necessary.
* Installing privacy screening along the trail where necessary.

Montgomery County Open Space funds and a grant from the PA DCNR will fund 80% of the estimated $1.8 million project.
