Drove up to the Dickey Ridge picnic area after hiking about one mile into the Dickey Ridge Hiking Trail below the entrance to Shenandoah National Park. The early hike at the lower elevation found the creek nearly dry and the area fairly void of songbirds.
Driving into the park and going up in elevation produced cooler temps (67°) and helped our birding effort.
