Mimosa pigra

Bradenton, Florida

During our visit to Robinson Preserve, I spotted this beautiful pink-with-white-dots weed growing in a shaded area very near the park's welcome center.
It was a single flower and less than three inches high.
Did a little research and found that it's an invasive weed species.
Best viewed in 'original' size.

Mimosa pigra is indeed a terrible weed of floodplains in tropical northern Australia, where it normally grows as a large shrub. It invades floodplain grasslands, turning them into impenentrable thickets for kilometre after kilometre.

Looks very similar to the flowers on our native melaleuca, (bottlebrush) though they are a shrub.
