Cascade Canyon

Durango-Silverton, Colorado

Animas River as it flows down through Cascade Canyon.
Photo taken during Narrow Gauge Railroad trip from Durango to Silverton;
a 45.4 mile ride through the San Juan Mountains. The train tracks cross the

This reminds me of parts of the south island of New Zealand near Queenstown, with that combination of rugged rock, shallow river in a flat-bottomed (glacier-carved?) valley, scattered stands of trees and dry grass.
