Rust does certainly fit the image of being abandoned to the ages - but these wheels will likely see service again. Once they accumulate enough for a truckload, about 15 on average, they are shipped to Rebuilders. The whole works is sandblasted, and x-rayed for stress fractures. Those with stress cracks are melted down, to be cast anew. On those intact, the load bearing surfaces are rebuilt to original thickness, via layered application of new metal in a hot-rolled process. The Bearing units (on the axle ends) are replaced - then they'll be mounted to a railcar once again, for many more years of use.

Not to worry - we're all running a loose ship about this stuff - maybe we'll find a way to be more structured later like taking turns in having a monthly modrerator or whatever but the key for now (and always)is having fun with our photos.
