Gintota, Sri Lanka tsunami aftermath

Gintota, Sri Lanka (Jan. 15, 2005) - A local man and two children watch a U.S. Marine Corps bulldozer as it levels-out land next to a soon-to-be demolished structure at the Gintota Maha Vidyala School in Gintota, Sri Lanka. All five buildings at the school were required to be demolished after the Tsunami left their foundations weak. Marines spent one week removing debris and leveling land before working with the Sri Lankan Army to complete demolition of the school, so that a new school can be constructed. Seabees assigned to Naval Mobile Contraction Battalion Seven (NMCB-7), are attached to Marine Logistics Regiment Two, Combined Support Group Sri Lanka, and have been deployed to support disaster relief and humanitarian assistance operations in support of Operation Unified Assistance, the humanitarian operation effort in the wake of the Tsunami that struck South East Asia.
