We didn’t get out of bed till late morning, all nursing hangovers. Marco took us on a walking tour of the city down to the capitol building, Notre-Dame, and the left bank. We took the metro back to save our feet for a night of more walking. Marco took us to the neighborhood his parents first lived in for diner. This time I ate something called Cassoulett, Marco and the waiter snickered when I ordered it, but I would have the last laugh on Marco. If anyone hasn’t had Cassoulett, I would recommend against it. It is the reason Americans think that the French are stinky. After diner we walked around the streets surrounding the Pantheon and the St-Etienne Du Mont, looking for a suitable pub. Marco wanted to take us to one of his old haunts from 25 years ago called the Crocodile, but it was too crowded to get in so we ended up at an Aussie bar. There Marco and I drank several Aussie beers. When that place closed at 2:00 AM we headed back to the Crocodile bar, which reminded me of a Turkish hooky lounge. Along the wall was a long bench seat, across from little tables and chairs. You were packed in like sardines against your companions and the other patrons. The Crocodile only serves cocktails and fruit juice, I ordered something that can’t be repeated in public and a fruit juice I just can’t recall, and Marco the “Rio Grande” as you can see from the pictures the “Rio Grande’s” had its effect on Marco. At some point I got up to go outside to get some fresh air, but the doors were locked. They do this when the place closes at 4:00 AM, you don’t have to leave or stop ordering drinks they just lock the doors so the cops can’t get in. For the most part I was sober, too tired to drink and was able to get Marco to leave around 5:00AM. After a cab ride to Bellefond Street where the flat was, Marco went in search of another bar. Marco instead that something would still be open, as I pointed to the sky and said “Marco, Its light out, the sun is rising” I told them I was going back to the flat, and after a short time looked out the window to see Marco leaning on the wall of the opposite building across the street. Trying to be as quite as I could, since we had already upset the other tenants with noise the previous night, motioning for Marco to come inside. 5:45 AM I was finally in bed. i’m sure Marco felt great knowing he could still close down the Crocodile as in his youth.
