Day 6:
We met Neal and Gerry for breakfast at 7:30, the Olin’s had a rough night of Grappa and where going to sleep in. After breakfast it was off to the Uffizi gallery. We had been warned to get there early, but it seems that getting there late is better, since we spent 3.5 hours waiting in line to get in. Gerry was off taking pictures as we were about to enter the gallery, frantically calling his name, he barely made it without a minute to spare. We couldn’t imagine waiting 3.5 hours in line to miss out by 60 seconds. The Uffizi was something astonishing, I could have spent the entire day in the halls looking at the frescos painted on the ceiling. After the gallery, we had lunch in an outside café. We stopped in the Courtyard, Palazzo Vecchio briefly before we parted ways with Neal & Gerry. We continued to the Duomo again, this time to climb up to the top. It was worth the 6 Euro’s each plus more climbing and the “Tourists”. After our climb on the Duomo we went inside the adjoining baptistery. Later that night we met up with Neal, Gerry and the Olin’s for dinner. It was a nice restaurant in the Plaza FRA’G. Savonarola, where we had pizza and wine. Back at the hotel lobby while having a night cap, we were joined by Jack Alltop, Bob & Suzanne Henig and Bob & Anne Sinclair.
