Portland's authentic Japanese Garden sits in a natural bowl surrounded by giant Douglas Fir trees which provide plenty of "borrowed scenery." The garden is especially beautiful in the fall and early spring. The garden (and the forests of the Pacific Northwest in general) provide a photographic challenge because of the juxtaposition of light and deep shade. These photos were taken with a Canon D-30 and Nikon Coolpix 990 during 2001.
