A perfect photo!
I also fought against digital after 60 years of film and I also am glad I now use my Canon 5D.

Why, why why is a place such as this deserted? I'd give my right arm to live in that house!

Outstanding use of B&W. I can't add anything to the other comments. It really holds the eye and it makes me want to ask more questions.

I remember looking at this shot when you first posted it.
I am surprised I didn't comment on it then.
Incredible depth and tonal range.
Guest 20-Dec-2006 03:32
It has a very 1940's B&W movie feel to it. Taken very well.
Chris Thorpe18-Dec-2006 22:46

I've found six points of interest which makes this shot work so well.
The positioning of the old school building in the frame, the empty childrens swing and see-saw, the boundary fence offering perspective, the cows and the small trees giving sense of scale, the wide open almost empty expanse of land, and finally (!!) that superb gradient to the sky. Blimey ! really made me think this one out.
In a word - Excellent.
What an eye you've got for this type of work.
Well earned vote from me. (V)

Like the light falling over the building and the way the fence seems to divide the light and dark areas of the image

I really like this shot. The lighting directs attention to the school and I can just picture the happiness and pleasant sounds that came from the playground in days gone by.

excellent! Absolutely wonderful. Reminds me of some work ansel had done when he visited the camp in the desert. Wide angle really adds to the story.

Mindy, this is an excellent photo. Your B&W technique is perfect. Would love to know your secrets.

What a great image this is. One's mind runs away with thoughts of how this once was & how many happy children attended this school.
Guest 25-Sep-2005 12:53
This reminds me what we do what we do....so that there is never an abandoned child like this abandoned schoolhouse that speaks volumes...one can get lost in this picture and then yearn to make a difference.
Guest 19-Sep-2005 12:40
Great moody shot. Love the light!

Love it.. Vote, and I could vote again!
Mark Holmes29-Aug-2005 15:50
Gorgeous picture. I like the softness in various sections of the grass and the forboding dark sky surrounding the white building, yet, still leaving room for sunlight to break through and strike it. Very nice.
Guest 12-Aug-2005 06:22
I was drawn BACK to this...

It's as if I can hear the swings creaking....that weird and lonely creak, do you know what I mean?
Manfred Bachmann23-Jul-2005 01:26
Absolutely awesome work! Get my vote

This whole gallery is absolutely stunning. The black and white effect is incredible. This picture is perhaps my favorite.

wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

wow

did i say wow?
Gary Winters18-Jul-2005 05:35
What I find compelling (and lonely) about this image is the swingset and teeter tauter (sp?). And then all that empty space streatching for miles about. Whoa.
Guest 07-Jul-2005 18:48
Fantastic shot.

Really liked this one in color but love it in B&W...just increases the sense of abandonment that the shot provides. Nice conversion...voted!

The B&W really draws out the mood of the image. Excellent work.
Guest 29-Jun-2005 00:46
Excellent composition and b&w works so well here.
Guest 28-Jun-2005 20:08
Ooooh, this is excellent! Beautiful b&w!
Guest 27-Jun-2005 15:49
Excellent capture. I would of preferred to have a little less sky and a little more ground. Other than that it is a beautiful B&W.
Karen Leaf27-Jun-2005 02:09
I think you nailed this one. And should nail it to the wall :)
