When this chapel was completed, it was found that there was no way to get into
the choir loft. An anonymous carpenter is said to have fashioned the spiral steps in
1877 using a T-square, a saw, a hammer and wooden pegs. When finished the man vanished
without accepting payment or recognition.
The "Miraculous Staircase" has two 360-degree turns and no visible means of support.
