468L Lake Malawi Cichlid Tank (Mar 2017)

Since the last gallery from May 2016 a few things did change in the tank.

Currently I keep the groups of Mylochromis Mchuse, Placidochromis phenochilus Mdoka white lips, Protomelas fenestratus Nkanda yellow belly, Labidochromis caeruleus, Cynotilapia hara Gallireya Reef, trio of Otopharynx lithobates Zimbawe Rock
plus single males – Aulonocara Stuartgranti Chilumba, Aulonocara Stuartgranti Hongi, Aulonocara Stuartgranti blue neon, Aulonocara rubin red, Aulonocara marmelade cat, Labidohromis white Nkali.

Most cichlids range now between 12-15 cm except of yellow labs and cynotilapias which are around 7-9 cm.

All of the clichlids I keep except of Aulonocara Stuartgranti Chilumba, Aulonocara rubin red, Aulonocara marmalade cat and the yellow labs born in my tank are F1 (first generation after wild fish).

All the species except of Aulonocara Rubin Red and Aulonocara marmalade cat live in Lake Malawi in Africa. Aulonocara rubin red is a line selectively bred from Aulonocara Stuartgranti Maleri which is naturally living in Lake Malawi.
Aulonocara marmalade cat is an artificial hybrid bred probably from Aulonocara freibergi and Metriaclima estherae red red OB.

The undisputed boss of the tank is the biggest male of Placidochromis phenochilus Mdoka white lips, the second fish in tank hierarchy is Aulonocara rubin red which is also relatively aggressive when comparing to the other tank mates.

The former boss of the tank - predator Dimidiochromis compressiceps – since summer is dead for unknown reason. It is not that bed, because this guy turned out to behave like shepherd dog watching his herd.
All the fish except of Dimi got crowded in 1/3 of the tank for most of the time, so in longer perspective I cannot imagine such a setup could work fine.
