A few members of the North American Prototype Modelers model railroad club (NAPM) had the privilege to tour the layout of John Swanson in Wisconsin
John's beautiful scratch-built structures are shown in this album
John is a big fan of the UP & BN going across Nebraska and all the grain elevators and complexes along both routes
almost all (if not ALL) that you see is scratch-built
John’s work appeared frequently in the old Model Railroad Journal magazine
As a unique example of an industry in central Nebraska, pictures 01 – 02 and 03 are of an alfalfa processing plant in Wood River NE where the plant would take fresh cut alfalfa, dry it, then cook/bake it into cubes for cattle feeding. During harvest time, one could smell this aroma as you came into these small towns as I did many times in my quest for UP photos following the mainline on US 30 across Nebraska
truly amazing modeling!
