Gallup seems to have more life than the towns we traveled through to get there. It is a base for travelers going into a number of natural wonders. It is also a trading area and there is a large rail switch yard there. Still, there are the all too frequent signs advertising businesses that don't exist.
The El Rancho Hotel is a throwback to better times. Built in the 30's, it has housed many of the movie stars of that era who were in the Gallup area to make the popular westerns.
