The Show Once again Gempitafest stormed into the U of M campus. It was not to be a repeat of the roaring success the event had in the previous year, due to various issues such as insufficient publicity and graduating seniors. However the event still went on as planned and those present were treated to an eclectic mix of melodies from head-banging heavy metal anthems to the pallid bubble-gum pop tunes. As a photographer, I had a pretty good time grabbing shots. I had the freedom of moving around the stage, thanks to a much larger area between the audience and the stage. Lighting was decent, but not as elaborate as last year, probably due to budget cuts. But still, nothing that Vibration Reduction, fast glass and center-weight metering cant handle. The future of GempitaFest hangs in a balance as there may not be enough interest among the Malaysian youth currently in the States to host another event like this. But whether or not we have another one next year, we still have the good memories of the past two events in images, video and possibly blistered fingers. Please feel free to leave your comments. Thanks Copyright Notice: As some of you are eager to download some of the images here or hotlink them to other sites, I would like to ask for your kind consideration over several issues. The copyright logos on my images are placed there for a reason. As a photographer, I would like to have some degree of control over where and how my photos are used. As anything and everything publicized over the internet can be considered fair game, I am forced to claim what belongs to me as my own. Therefore I hope you respect my decision to mark my images. Also, BEFORE you hotlink or download my photos, the very least I would request of you is to send me an email (nikoner@gmail.com) requesting permission for its use and a link to where it will be used. And when approved and used, that you give credit to whom credit is due. It’s just a small request from me so we do not run into any complications later on. I have invested a lot of time and finances on my photography so I hope you respect my work. Prints: Images here are about 800 pixels (longest length) for a reason. They probably won’t print out very well on 3R sized prints. So if you would like some prints, please email (nikoner@gmail.com) me and we’ll work something out. Running this site is not free, and neither is any of my equipment used on the night of the event. So if you would like to help a starving artist prints are available for sale. ©Michael Ng 2005 |
