Before Mr Crapper invented his indoor potty, "toilet" meant something totally different than it does today. Comes from the word: "Toilette", which means to dress and prepare oneself. Eau De Toilette was the term for perfume at that time too. And this article seems to have a mouth that would be very difficult to use accurately for potty purposes, so I'm sure it wasn't used as a "toilet".
