Back to Rancho San Rafael. This male Hooded Merganser was a very good hunter as he came up with a crawdad many times while I was there. He also had the entire pond to himself. In this image, I thought he had choked up a piece of meat, such as crawdad, but Jerry zoomed in on the shot and decided that it is a leaf. Guess he had a accidentally swallowed it.
