Paul and I went out to the Damonte Ranch area wetlands. This shot ended up with much controversy. I first thought it was a Blue-winged Teal, but the more I thought about it, didn't make sense as all the males we saw were Green-winged Teal. So I asked Jerry about it and we went back and forth. I became convinced that it is a Green-winged and Jerry thought it was a Mallard. We appealed to a higher authority in Alan. He concluded that it is a Green-winged Teal. The blue wing color is probably a function of the low light.
