I was walking back to the car and stopped next to a wetlands along the trail. I was looking at this thistle and was thinking how cool it would be if a colorful butterfly came along and landed on it. I swear on a stack of bibles that this Monarch came in right while I was thinking that. I stood there with my teeth in my mouth for several seconds in disbelief, then decided it was time to kneel down and get some shots. Normally a hesitation like that means missing the shot.
