An orchestra comprising of women prisoners was formed during 1943. They played at this wall when work parties left and returned, and also when new prisoners arrived. Although the motives can be debated, their is no denying that the orchestra helped save the lives of some women who, were they not musicians, would almost certainly have been gassed.
