A Relatively Recent Relative at the Smithsonian

Washington, DC

The bones of this ape, perhaps that illusive missing link, are covered with the over exposing of old and dulling spot ligthing that is found in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. Combine that fact by enclosing this skull within super thick glass, reflecting everything around and within the scene, makes this one difficult subject to capture, even though it was certainly standing still. Hot spots on the aper were reflecting on all parts of the bones. So, as you may have guessed, after uploading to my computer, I used photoshop to carefully feather in lots of natural bone textures, from other parts of the skull, to reduce the plethora of hot spots.
