16th Archeaological Festival in Biskupin - Old Russia – known and unknown

For the sixteenth time Biskupin invites You to take part in the astonishing event called
Archaeological Festival, now with motto “Old Russia – known and unknown”
. Our attention we direct
to our eastern brothers – Russians, Byelorussians and Ukrainians. We intend to fight with
stereotypes which still circulate in our society. First Russian state – Kiev Rus – flourished
between X and XII centuries. The Christian rite was adopted by Rus from Byzantium in 986. Until
now Greek-Orthodox religious and cultural influence plays an important role in Eastern Slavs
heritage and tradition. In IX – X centuries AD a vast area of Eastern Europe was inhabited by the
tribes now known mostly by scientists – Polans (near Kiev), Drevlans, Kryviczes, Tyvertzes,
Volhynians, Viatiches and Severians. Until XII century Kiev Rus ruled a huge territories between
Bug and Dnepr rivers. Rich cultural tradition of Kiev Rus will be presented by craftsmen from
Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. to present an important events of Old Rus history. The Festival will
be enriched by the exhibition of archaeological There will be concerts performed by a music and
dance ensembles and bands - for example “Jawaryna”. Young pupils of Moscow school of swordplay
will show their skill to the audience. Organizers of the Festival intend artefacts and spiritual
culture objects of our Eastern neighbours medieval civilization. Please, be with us and Old Rus
during Biskupin festival hectic time.
