Our last leg of the trip was the infamous, enchanted and mystical crescent-shaped island. The highlight was a 6.5 mile hike along the coast from the towns of Fira to Oia (pronounced "e-ya"). These two towns are in the northern-end of the island and are the most touristic. We stayed for four nights at a very nice two-bedroom air B&B in Akrotiri on the very southern end of the island, a twenty-minute car ride to the northern-end of the island. Weather-wise, it was so ideal with breezy air and temperature in the high 60s' in the morning to low 70s' by noon. Summer months (from June to August) can be scorching hot, humid plus the tidal waves of tourist crowds. One interesting fact is that the grapes from this island are mainly for white wines which are very mild and refreshing to the palate. Red wine selection is very limited. Surprisingly, there are quite a few wineries on the island.
