We ventured away from the safety of home during the COVID-19 health crisis, to see if there is life out there during the pandemic in the wilderness of the Eastern Sierra of California. Yes, there is. Folks are out and about during the peak of summer at popular resorts in this part of the state. For the first time, we checked out a new lake, Convict Lake, located off of Hwy 395, five miles south of the Mammoth Lakes town which is a very popular winter ski resort for the Southern CA skiers. We drove from Twain Harte, Sonora heading east on Hwy 108 to Sonora Pass (9645 ft. elevation) which ends at Hwy 395 then southbound to Bridgeport, Mono Lake, Lee Vinings (Junction of Hwy 395 and Hwy 120/Tioga Pass). It's a three-hundred mile roundtrip and it'd take three hours each way. The lake is relatively small with a marina for small-craft boating. We got there at 3PM and it was quite windy.
