For a day trip, we rode the train from Rapallo to Riomaggiore, one of the five villages (hence, the name Cinque Terra or Five Lands) hanging off the cliffs. We then got a boat ride to Vernazza in order to hike for two hours along the coast to Monterosso. The hike is about three miles long, up and down the hills and it was quite warm that day...
