Ryder Bottoms (mostly) in August 2008

Photos taken in the Ryder Bottoms area of Jefferson County, Illinois. Many of these are of my favorite wildflower, the cardinal flower, which is native to Illinois. It grows in moist lowland areas and blooms in late August and/or early to mid September. It seems to have a regal appearance.
