Jennifer and I disagree on what ranks as the worst night of the vacation. For me, the overnight bus from Zagreb to Split ranks as #1. We wanted to take a train and get a sleeper, but the tracks were being repaired. So on an overnight bus, with the driver listening to Euro-techno-beat dance music and the couple behind us jabbering away most of the night, we went from Zagreb to Split. My ear plugs weren't good enough.

It was surprising to go from the temperate climate and vegetation of the Zagreb area to see the palm trees in this obvious Mediterranean region.

Especially when your brain is replaying a throbbing bass line.
